Juno award winning Toronto Mass Choir will release Canada’s first ever-contemporary gospel choir Christmas CD recording in November 2010!

This Christmas season, Canada will be in for a treat. Juno award winning Toronto Mass Choir will release Canada’s first ever-contemporary gospel choir Christmas CD recording in November 2010. This release will feature brand new arrangements of familiar Christmas carols that demonstrate the versatility of this powerful 35-voice ensemble.

Produced by Roy Oommen and Corey Butler, this holiday offering also features the talent of Mark Masri as guest soloist on the power ballad, ‘Don’t Save It All For Christmas Day’. Masri recently released his new CD, ‘La Voce’ and is known as a vocal powerhouse who has recently collaborated with artists such as Jim Brickman and Amy Sky. “The time has finally come for the world to know what we have always known about Mark Masri”, says director Karen Burke.

Other guest artists featured on this project are Robi Botos, award-winning jazz pianist and drumming phenom, Larnell Lewis. Various styles from traditional ‘hand-clapping’ arrangements of ‘Go Tell It On The Mountain’ and ‘Joy To The World” are interspersed with provocative jazz and reggae spins on popular Christmas songs such as ‘Do You Hear What I Hear’ and “We Three Kings”.

The CD release concert for this new Christmas album will be held at Agincourt Pentecostal Church in Scarborough, ON on Sunday, November 21st at 7 p.m. Stay tuned for more information on how to get your ticket.

Why wait? Why not pre-order your CD on the link provided in the side bar on our website. For only $15.00 plus taxes and shipping & handling, be among the first to receive your very own copy delivered directly to your home.

Merry Christmas!

If you attended the concert on November 21, 2009 - you saw history being made as Toronto Mass Choir and Newworldson

If you attended the concert on November 21, 2009 – you saw history being made as Toronto Mass Choir and Newworldson (http://www.newworldson.com) took the stage together. After their collaboration on Newworldson’s newest album, TMC was thrilled to sing on tracks “There Is A Way” and the Jamaican medley.
“There Is A Way” reached #2 on the Billboard charts in February, and it’s still holding at #3: http://www.billboard.com/#/charts/christian-songs.
We are so honoured to be joining Newworldson again in a concert on Sunday, May 2 at 7:30 pm in Niagara-on-the-Lake at the Orchard Park Bible Church. Tickets are $20 with proceeds to Grace Children’s Hospital in Port au Prince. For 50 years Caribbean offshore workers have provided a dependable source of labour to farms in Niagara. We believe they should be recognized for their valuable contribution to not only our farms and businesses but deep rooted friendships in our churches and neighbourhoods. Our annual Worker Welcome night is one way we as a community we would like to say thank you!
These are challenging times for everyone in the agricultural community, especially our farmers who are facing increasing threats due to globalization and lack of support from Canadian consumers. The decline of the family farm not only threatens food sources for future Canadians but the very survival of many communities in the Caribbean.
May the spirit behind the music encourage us to grow together in understanding and faith!

“The Evolution of Gospel Music” is one show I will never forget; I was entertained, I was informed and most of all I was moved! The vocal performances were incredible, the production spectacular and one could not have asked for a better band. This powerful drama takes you on a journey of the black experience in North America via the soundtrack of their lives. From the Spirituals birthed in the suffering of the plantation slaves to today’s chart topping hits each era of Gospel Music is explored exposing one to the challenges and victories of the times. The ear is treated to a wonderfully diverse palette of sounds and styles while the heart is stirred by the courage and dignity of the people who in the midst of oppression gave us a gift of music that sets the soul free! Don’t miss the opportunity to experience “The Evolution of Gospel Music” your body will move with the rhythm and your heart will cry out with the conviction …”thank God Almighty I’m free at last!”

Local Gospel Artists Come Together for a Night of Family Entertainment.

Author:Tara Burke

Toronto, ON – The cream of the crop in Toronto gospel music’s scene unite for a wonderful night of music and praise! The Juno award-winning Toronto Mass Choir headlines the event along with other participants including jazz-influenced steel pan artist Joy Lapps, and gospel soul artist, Jenna Burke. The evening proposes a night of high quality music available for the whole family at a very affordable price. In partnership with Scarborough’s Malvern Christian Assembly, located at 6705 Sheppard Avenue East, the event takes place at 7pm on August 29, 2009.

The gospel music scene in Toronto is very vibrant, and this night promises nothing less than collaboration between some of its brightest lights. Leaving behind the rainy weather and the Toronto garbage strike, this night guarantees a night of uplifting music after a not-so-uplifting summer. Joining the artists mentioned above, the night will include recording artist Nordene, steel pan player, Winston Dayal, and the jazz sounds of the Joy Brown Quintet. A family can enjoy the night for the great price of only $10, with children age 4 and under getting in for free! The night will also include giveaways and refreshments on sale.

The night is dubbed “Malvern Micah Mix”, allowing the sponsor, Micah Records to showcase some of its talents at Malvern Christian Assembly. After enjoying a long-standing partnership of almost two decades, both are excited to host this event for local gospel music lovers. Toronto Mass Choir director Karen Burke says, “This not-to-be missed event will reunite the musicians from our Caribbean gospel music album, “Going Home” including producer Joy Brown and drummer, Larnell Lewis. It is sure to be a night to remember.”

Micah Records, established in 1988, exists to provide gospel music that moves listeners into the presence of God by giving a stage for talented artists to share their God-given talents. The Malvern Micah Mix continues a tradition of amazing nights of worship, praise and community. Doors open at 6 p.m.
