Born in Incheon, South Korea and raised in Seoul, JT Kim is a Toronto-based bass player, upright bass player, producer, writer, arranger and educator. He moved to Toronto with his family in 2003, and graduated from Humber College with a Bachelor of Music in 2012 — as a vocal major!
While studying at Humber, JT discovered his love for the bass guitar which has now become his passion. His versatile style has allowed him to perform with artists from many different genres in Toronto, ranging from reggae to pop and Gospel. JT also rocks out on famous “rock ‘n roll” classics with Rookie, the band fronted by former Jersey Boys cast, performs at SXSW festival with folk artists, and performed in a Frank Sinatra tribute concert curated by Jazz FM 91.1.
JT is also recording intensely with many artists all over the world, including the Toronto Mass Choir, and K-Pop artists like Jubora and Paul Kim, to name a few. He has shared the stage as band director and bass player for renowned K-Pop artist Byun Jin-sub at the Toronto Metro Convention Centre and Hard Rock Casino in Vancouver. He currently serves as a band director for Praise Cathedral Worship Centre, as well as many other Christian conferences in Toronto.
JT received his first Juno Nomination for Jazz Album of the year in 2021 as an arranger and bass player for Conpambiche by Junior Santos.
